How to Clean Your Paw Pedic Bed

To maintain a happy and clean pet, your dog’s Paw Pedic bed should be cleaned at least once a month. Here’s how:

Paw Pedic High Back Beds

First: the Cover

To preserve the color and finish of the fabric and its proper fitting, we discourage the use of bleach or fabric softener and washing the cover together with any other items.
As a preliminary, vacuum the bed first to remove as much fur as possible.
Use a sponge with water and a light soap to gently clean the faux leather cover. Allow it to air dry outdoors or in a room with plenty of ventilation.
The fabric cover is machine-washable. Hooray! (But don’t toss in the innerspring dog mattress, no matter how tempting.) Unzip and remove the cover. Wash on the gentle cycle setting, in cool water,* using mild detergent. Machine dry on the low or no-heat setting to remove wrinkles. Alternately, allow to air dry with good ventilation.
Gel inserts for pet dog beds, however, should never be machine-washed. Suds them up gently with a light soap, rinse with cool water and wipe dry with a soft towel.

Second: the Mattress

Having removed the fabric cover, first use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust and particles on the mattress itself. You will want to vacuum all sides, preferably with a small upholstery attachment.

Following your stain removal process, if it was necessary, the general soap and water phase may begin. Dissolve a few teaspoons of mild detergent in a bucket of cold water. Dipping a clean sponge into soapy water, use it to wash all surface areas of the mattress.
Now it’s time for the most important part: thorough drying. Air-dry the mattress in a warm area until fully dry. Using fans near the mattress will speed up the process, but do expect it to take at least a day to dry.

Your puppy or dog is now ready to enjoy his bed again! To maintain the condition of your pet’s elegant Paw Pedic bed after washing, give it a once over with your vacuum cleaner when you straighten up the room where your dog sleeps. You may also spray with Febreze, if desired.

*If your dog has fleas, ticks or another coat issue, use a fabric cover and wash it in hot water to remove the pests and their larvae. Consider applying a pet-grade insecticide to the outside of the mattress, as per product instructions.
